چکیده

A computational model is developed to study the effect of coupling of thermally activated and drag-dependent processes during dislocation motion through an array of obstacles in metals. The model explicitly includes three successive, reiterative stages typical of such motion: the thermally activated breakoff from an equilibrium position; accelerated drag-dependent motion; and the transition to the next equilibrium position controlled by the two previous stages. Calculation results are presented over a wide range of dislocation velocities, applied stresses and temperatures for a prototype f.c.c. metal close to copper. The presented model is also the first step for explaining quantitatively experimental findings regarding the effects of the SN transition on dislocation motion and plasticity in superconductors.  2001 Acta Materialia Inc. Modeling of Thermal-Assisted Dislocation Friction

We generalize a model for friction at a sliding interface involving the motion of misfit dislocations to include the effect of thermally activated transitions across barriers. We obtain a comparatively simple form with the absolute zero-temperature Peierls barrier replaced by an effective Peierls barrier which varies exponentially with temperature, in agreement with recent experimental observat...

COMBINED MONTEGGIA LESION AND ELBOW DISLOCATION

This case is a 19-year-old soldier who suffered a combined elbow dislocation and posterior Monteggia fracture and dislocation (type II). The ulna fracture was managed by ORIF. The elbow dislocation was managed by closed reduction and immobilization in 900 flexion. The posteriorly dislocated radial head was kept reduced by a transarticular pin. After 6 months elbow and forearm motion was restric...

Casson Fluid Flow with Variable Viscosity and Thermal Conductivity along Exponentially Stretching Sheet Embedded in a Thermally Stratified Medium with Exponentially Heat Generation

The motion of temperature dependent viscosity and thermal conductivity of steady incompressible laminar free convective (MHD) non-Newtonian Casson fluid flow over an exponentially stretching surface embedded in a thermally stratified medium are investigated. It is assumed that natural convection is induced by buoyancy and exponentially decaying internal heat generation across the space. The dim...

Shuffle-glide dislocation transformation in Si

The transformation of dislocation cores from the shuffle to the glide set of {111} glide planes in Si is examined in this work. The transformation is thermally activated and is favored by a resolved shear stress which applies no force on the original perfect shuffle dislocation. A resolved shear stress driving dislocation motion in the glide plane is not observed to promote the transition. The ...

Crystal plasticity model for BCC iron atomistically informed by kinetics of correlated kinkpair nucleation on screw dislocation

The mobility of dislocation in body-centered cubic (BCC) metals is controlled by the thermally activated nucleation of kinks along the dislocation core. By employing a recent interatomic potential and the Nudged Elastic Band method, we predict the atomistic saddle-point state of 1=2〈111〉 screw dislocation motion in BCC iron that involves the nucleation of correlated kinkpairs and the resulting ...
